Today was one of those days that felt creatively fulfilling and oddly therapeutic. I spent the day working with ceramic paste, something I’ve been curious to try for a while. The idea of shaping something with my hands and bringing a blank piece of material to life was so appealing.
It started with setting up my little workstation—just a table, some tools, and, of course, the ceramic paste. The texture was soft and cool to the touch, and it had this satisfying pliability that made it so easy to work with. I decided to start with something simple: a small trinket box and a flower-shaped ornament.
The trinket box was challenging at first. Getting the sides smooth and even was harder than I thought, but I quickly got the hang of it. Patience was key! The flower ornament, on the other hand, was pure fun. I loved shaping the petals, layering them to make them look delicate and natural. I even added tiny grooves to mimic veins on the petals.
By midday, I was covered in bits of dried paste and had no regrets. I put the pieces aside to dry and took a break to think about how I’d paint them later. Soft pastels for the flower and maybe a deep blue for the trinket box—it felt exciting to plan ahead.
As the day went on, I realized how calming this whole process was. Time flew by, and I hardly noticed. There was something meditative about focusing on shaping each detail and watching the objects slowly come to life.
Now, as I write this, my pieces are drying on the shelf, and I can’t wait to see how they turn out. This experience reminded me of how important it is to explore new hobbies and give yourself the freedom to create. Today wasn’t just about making things; it was about rediscovering a little piece of joy.
