Today was an incredible day filled with history  and beauty. I visited two of Cairo’s most iconic mosques: Sultan Hassan Mosque and Al-Rifa’i Mosque. They are located right next to each other, like majestic twins standing tall against time.

The moment I arrived, I was captivated by the grand architecture of Sultan Hassan Mosque. Its massive entrance felt almost overwhelming, and the intricate details on the doors and walls were mesmerizing. I walked into the courtyard, and the calmness took over. The sunlight poured in from above, highlighting the large fountain in the center. Each corner of the mosque seemed to tell a story from the past.

I also learned that this mosque is one of the finest examples of Mamluk architecture. The towering minarets seemed to touch the sky, and the cool marble floors under my feet added to the serenity.

After spending some time there, I walked across to Al-Rifa’i Mosque, which felt like stepping into a different world. The elegance of this mosque contrasted beautifully with the austerity of Sultan Hassan. It had a royal charm—no surprise since it houses the tombs of kings and queens, including the last Shah of Iran. The golden details on the walls and the breathtaking chandeliers gave it a regal atmosphere.

I spent a lot of time sitting in the prayer area, taking in the peace and reflecting. The play of light and shadow inside both mosques was enchanting. I couldn’t stop admiring the incredible craftsmanship and how these structures have stood the test of time.

As I left, I felt a deep sense of connection to the past, imagining all the people who had walked these grounds before me. Today was a reminder of how much beauty and history surround us if we take the time to explore.

Reflection:

I left the mosques feeling humbled and inspired. These places are not just buildings—they are living histories, full of art, culture, and spirituality. I hope to visit again someday.
